Corrections Officer Sam Rush was monitoring the machine shop at
approximately 8:15 a.m., Tuesday morning in the New Jersey State Prison,
formerly known as Trenton. At the same time, according to sources, several
inmates began carrying out what they had planned.

Inmates apparently created a diversion. During such time, one of
them came up on Officer Rush and slashed his throat with a sharp object.
Earlier it had been reported that a piece of metal was used, but this cannot
be confirmed. The inmate then continued the attack on Rush who successfully
fought him off. Officer Rush was eventually able to summon assistance.
Alarms sounded and the prison was put on lock-down.

Officer Rush was rushed from the prison to the hospital. He underwent
treatment, and remains in the hospital after receiving 15 stitches to his
throat. While the name of the attacker has not yet been officially
released, it appears that he is serving 30 years for murder, manufacturing
methamphetamines and weapons charges.

Charges have not yet been filed, but due to the severity and obvious
lethality of the attack, PBA Officials are pushing for Attempted Murder.

The attack occurred one day before the sixth anniversary of
Corrections Officer Fred Baker's fatal stabbing at Bayside State Prison in
Maurice River Township where Prisoner Steven Beverly stabbed Officer Baker.

That really sucks and I hope he lives.

Now just imagine how bad it must suck for the guy who knows that someone
wants to cut his throat, but nobody gives a damn because he's just an inmate
and there aint no escape. How bad must that suck ?

Hope he makes it.

I hear you, Lefty. Dying from a prison attack is no way for anyone to
go.

My thoughts are with Sam Rush.
